Google’s Auto-Generated Video Ads in P-Max: What Law Firms Should Know

Google is at it again. In its latest push for automation, P-Max campaigns auto-generated video ads seem to be ramping up!—yes, that means Google’s AI will take your existing text, images, and assets and stitch them into video spots to run across YouTube and the Display Network. Right now these appear to be generic canva slideshows set to super cringey non copyrighted music.

On paper, it’s a big win for advertisers who don’t have the time, budget, or resources to produce custom video content. But if you’ve ever cringed at AI-generated creative, you know the risks: off-brand messaging, awkward visuals, and ads that may not capture the professional tone your law firm needs.

How Will This Impact Your Firm?

  • Lower barrier to entry for video ads – Firms without in-house production can finally run on YouTube without investing in studio-quality work, like it or not.

  • Less creative control – Google decides how your firm is represented, which can be risky for sensitive practice areas like personal injury, family law, or criminal defense.

  • Potentially stronger reach – Video inventory is massive, and this could increase your firm’s visibility across Google’s ecosystem.

  • Quality vs. brand integrity – Auto-generated videos may drive impressions, but the “look and feel” may not reflect your firm’s professionalism.

Our take: auto-generated video ads could be a good testing ground, but firms serious about brand reputation should still invest in at least some custom video. Think of Google’s AI-made videos as filler—useful, but not the foundation of your marketing strategy. A caveat is that you cannot disable these assets so if you are running P-max campaigns and do not have video assets you are running these generic ads. We have since scaled back on P-max due to some of these issues for brands that do not have video assets.

As these new tools roll out, having a team that knows how to balance AI’s efficiency with your firm’s brand voice will make all the difference.

From now on, Local Services Ads (LSAs) will no longer automatically display their qualifying badges.
